We’re excited to invite you to this special online tasting on August 21st at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern where we’ll be celebrating the launch of a new brand of Bourbon and Rye made in Los Angeles at the R6 Distillery (in El Segundo). Our guest speaker will be Seth Benhaim, who helped create the brand and is also the founder of Broken Barrel whiskies. We’ll be tasting 10 expressions total, including 3 single barrels that we selected exclusively for Drammers Club, along with 7 expressions from the R6 Distillery.
So how does the Stock Exchange Club of Los Angeles differ from R6? Well, they’ve brought in Seth Benhaim, the LA-based founder of Broken Barrel bourbons and ryes, and he’s hand-picked these barrels to launch this new brand. As for R6 itself, it’s been around since 2014 and was importantly the first legally-distilled bourbon in Los Angeles since prohibition. But like so many craft distilleries, they’re feeling the squeeze in the whiskey markets, and while of course nobody knows what the future may hold, we do know that they stopped distilling middle of last year and do not have plans to start distilling again, which is of course a huge bummer as they have great stuff. As soon as we heard the news, we moved quickly to bring. in what was left of their remaining stocks of special releases, brewery collaborations and other limited editions into our retail partner DRINQY.com. We’ll be tasting 7 of those expressions, all of which we understand are being discontinued, along with our 3 single barrels, two bourbons and one rye (and one of each is HAZMAT proof — in other words, north of 70% abv).
