Oct. 2: Drammers St. Louis -w- Dave Schmier, Founder of Proof & Wood......

$25.00

Hello St. Louis Drammers!

A fun opportunity fell into our lap for a special tasting this Thursday at 7pm - Dave Schmier is in town - and we're proud to say that not only is he a major figure in the bourbon and rye industry, he's also a fellow Drammer and dear friend (more on him below).  A big thank you to Tuxedo Park B&B for hosting us, address:  700 Tuxedo Blvd, Webster Groves, MO 63119).

In addition to being a lovely guy in general, Dave is one of a small handful of people who led the resurgence of rye whiskey in the United States in the early 2000s when he created and built Redemption Rye.  He later sold that company and launched a portfolio of bourbon and rye brands under a new Proof & Wood label (Tumblin' Dice, Deadwood, the DC series "The Senator", "The Justice" etc. along with many others). Here’s our tenative lineup for this tasting:

  • Blame Canada 22yo Rye.  You don't see Canadian whiskey this old very often!  Distilled in 2001 in Alberta, Canada, a batch of 14 single barrels (91% rye, 9% corn).  Proof varies, 117-119 Proof.

  • The Representative Bourbon. Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey. Aged a minimum of 4 years (2 Congressional Terms). Small batch, approximately 20 barrels. Barrel entry 120 proof, distilled at MPG in Indiana. Approx. 115 Proof, 75% Corn, 21% Rye, 4% Barley.

  • The Senator Rye. Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey, aged a minimum of 6 years in new charred oak barrels, mingling 10-20 select barrels, bottled at barrel proof to showcase the bold Rye flavors. 95% Rye, 5% Malted Barley, 112-121 Proof.

  • Tumblin Dice 8yo Bourbon - Laird's Apple Brandy Finish.  This is his newest hit release, and its kind of surprising that Laird's (as one of the very first distilleries in the history of the country) hasn't been utilized more.  118.9 Proof

  • The Stranger - 8yo Polish Rye.  This was distilled in Poland before the distillery shut down, sold off the stocks and the team moved to Florida!  At the time it was made, it was the only distillery making whisky in Poland (which has since changed).  105 Proof

  • The Globe. Polish Rye in Jamaican Rum. 100% Rye distilled in Poland, originally aged in French oak, shipped to Kentucky then transferred to Bourbon barrels, aged 8+ years in French & American oak. Finished for over a year in Jamaican rum barrels. 49.5% abv

  • Drammers Exclusive. - Proof & Wood Curated Collection - 10yo Single Barrel Bourbon. 99% corn, 1% malted barley from MGP, aged 10 years.

You can find details on all of these bottles through our retail partner DRINQY.com here. That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us!  And as always we strongly encourage everyone to arrange a ride home — we’re going to be drinking a lot of high-proof stuff.  A big thank you to Pat for organizing and hosting -- he'll be running point on this one as Charlie will be hosting an event at the same time in Delaware.

Cheers,
Drammers Club
