Oct. 21: Drammers Salt Lake City......

$55.00

Hello Salt Lake City Drammers!

Our next tasting is coming up on Tuesday, October 21st at 7pm, and a big thank you to Richard Leverett for organizing and hosting us again (address: 325 N 490 W, SLC, 84103). We’ll be tasting through a rockstar list of some of the hottest new releases (mostly bourbon, rye and Scotch, though we did throw in a single malt from the Netherlands and an Australian rum):

  • Angels Envy - Cellar Collection Vol. 5 (Tequila Cask).  This limited special edition from Angels Envy was priced accordingly (MSRP of $270/bottle).  Aged initially for 7 years, followed by another year in Extra Anejo French Oak casks and then blended with an 11yo rye.  52.1% abv.

  • Ardnamurchan Single Malt Scotch - Mezcal Cask.  We thought it would be fun to compare these two recent agave finished whiskies.  This is a relative newcomer to the Highlands of Scotland, and is fairly hard to come by (only 900 bottles total came to the United States).  It is peated single malt, 55% abv.

  • Heaven Hill - Grain to Glass Bourbon.  Normally we would think of "grain varietals" as being the exclusive domain of smaller craft distilleries, making this series of limited editions from Heaven Hill all the more remarkable.  Their "Grain to Glass" series launched last year with the idea of a series of releases exploring different corn and rye grain varietals (in this case, Becks 6158).  It doesn't carry an age statement, but is known to be aged 6 years, with a high-rye content (35%), with an MSRP of $100.  53.5% abv.

  • Heaven Hill - Grain to Glass Rye.  This was the first rye release in this series, which also uses a grain varietal (I believe the same Becks 6158 corn), and features an atypically high 63% rye in the mashbill (vs. the more common "barely legal" ryes from Kentucky that used as close to 49% corn as possible, and like the bourbon it is delightfully bottled at cask strength, 61.6% abv.

  • Tumblin Dice 8yo Rye Whiskey Finished in Laird's Applejack (Brandy).  It is somewhat surprising that so few people have collaborated with Lairds (one of the oldest and most significant distilleries in the USA).  Leave it to Dave Schmier to fill the gap, taking his award-winning rye and finishing it in Laird's Applejack casks.  Yes, the whisky is sourced (likely from MGP), but as Dave would say, "Sourcing is not a crime", ha.  A limited edition 10 barrel blend.  59.45% abv.

  • Whistle Pig 10yo Canadian Rye Single Cask.  Keeping the rye theme going, our newest Drammers single barrel pick (#108) is a 10yo Canadian rye whiskey from our friends at WhistlePig.  You'll be one of the first chapters of the club to try it.  Barrel No. 210905, 55.5% abv.

  • Zuidam - Single Malt from the Netherlands.  Catador Itinerante is a new independent bottler dedicated exclusively to world whiskies, and we'll be hosting an online event with them on Oct. 23rd.  They have released 6 single malt expressions to date so far, 2 from Germany, 2 from Austria and 2 from the Netherlands.  This is a 9yo expression was aged in Virgin American Oak.  55.1% abv.

  • Dead Reckoning - 9yo Australian Rum.  This is the leading independent bottler of rum in Australia, and we recently hosted a series of events with their founder Justin Boseley.  This rum was aged in a bourbon cask in the hot Australian climate.  A blend of pot and column distilled rums.  55% abv

That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! As usual, we will order in pizza which is included in your ticket, and of course we ask that everyone arrange a ride home (as you’ll see from the lineup, literally EVERYTHING is cask strength). Please let us know if you have any questions!

Cheers,
Charlie, Richard and Drammers Club
