Hello Birmingham Drammers!

A quick reminder that you’re invited to join us for another tasting of rare whiskey and spirits this coming Monday, April 29th at 7pm. We’ll be tasting through a fun mix of bourbon, scotch, mezcal and more. This includes several fun new barrel picks exclusive to our club that just arrived:

  • Single Cask Nation 11yo Inchgower single malt scotch, finished for 26 months in a sherry hogshead,

  • Duncan Taylor Octave - Aultmore Single Malt Scotch, distilled in 2008, botted in 2022, aged 13 years. 1 of 72 bottles, 52.1% abv.

  • Duncan Taylor Octave - Royal Brackla Single Malt Scotch, distilled in 2011, bottled in 2018, aged 7 years. 52.4% abv.

  • Spirits of French Lick - 4yo Bourbon “The Maddie Gladden” - a distillery located in Indianapolis (not MGP, it’s their own distillery)

  • Rezpiral - Tepextate Mezcal by Berta Vasquez.  One of the great legends in Oaxaca, Berta Vasquez is one of the very few world-renowned Maestro Mezcaleras.  The tepextate agave is arguably the rarest and most sought-after of the varietals, owing in no small part to the fact that the plants take over 20 years before they can be harvested (in this case, 22-24 years).  Needless to say, nobody anticipated the current mezcal boom 24 years ago.

  • Rezpiral - Madrecuishe by Reina Sanchez.  Another of the great Maestro Mezcaleras in Oaxaca, we've also had the privilege of visiting her palenque in person, and selecting this special batch of mezcal just for the club.  All the agaves that went into this batch were grown 15-20 years before they could be harvested to make this mezcal.

  • Empirical x Doritos bottle - This much-talked-about expression has been written off by some as a gimmick.  That would be to seriously underestimate the people making it.  It is vacuum distilled, using a base malt that is fermented with Kogi, and then an entire bag of nacho cheese Doritos was macerated into each bottle! Needs to be tasted to be believed.  Do a little research on Empirical, and you'll see that their biggest customers around the world are mostly Michelin-starred restaurants and many of America's most famous high-end cocktail bars.

We'll also be adding another expression -- likely a couple bourbons from the R6 Distillery in Los Angeles, but we'll give ourselves a little wiggle room on that, so it'll be a surprise.  A big thank you to Reid for hosting us Reid for hosting this event (address: 2311 Morris Ave #301), and a big thank you to Justin for organizing.  As usual, we’ll order in light food (included, likely pizza), to make sure nobody is drinking on an empty stomach, and arranging a ride home is highly encouraged.

We hope you can join us!

Cheers!
