Jul. 23: Drammers Stamford -w- Tenmile Distillery......
Hello Stamford Drammers!
Join us for a special tasting in Stamford on July 23rd at 7pm with Shane Fraser, the Master Distiller for Tenmile Distillery. Tenmile is an important new distillery based in New York that is serious about American Single Malt. The distillery was founded in 2017, first started making whisky in 2020 and only released their first single malt in 2023. Everything they do is made in-house in Upstate New York, even using locally-grown barley (as in 30 miles away) that is malted in New York. To accomplish all this, they brought in a heavyweight distillery, Shane Fraser. Shane has a remarkable resume, having worked as a distiller at Oban, then he went on to be the Distillery Manager at Glenfarclas of all places for nearly 6 years, followed by another 6 years as the Distillery Manager at the Wolfburn Distillery, before the Tenmile founders managed to poach him and bring him to New York, where he has overseen the operation from the launch. And now comes the exciting part, their whisky has come of age and they’re starting to roll it out to the world. Needless to say, here at Drammers WE ARE EXCITED! The lineup for this event will basically be the best Tenmile tasting lineup ever. The exact bottles are a little fluid, just because they’re spoiling us rotten with a bunch of new releases. Here’s a rough sketch of what we expect will be poured at the event — it’ll likely be tweaked with even bigger bottles and maybe even some unreleased Fall previews when the event starts!
Little Rest Pinot Noir Cask Strength. 5 Year – the first! This is a marriage of two Williams Selyem barrels together, now five years old and bottled at cask strength. 61.5% abv
Single Malt finished in a rye cask (cask strength)
Little Rest Revolutionary Whisky – Battle #12: The Battle of Brooklyn. 25 Gallon Bourbon casks also filled in 2020, also no longer purchased by the distillery, this bottling serves to create a comparison to “The Battle of White Plains.” With incrementally fewer units of wood per unit of New Make Spirit, this bottling is functionally just as old but demonstrates the role played by the volume of the vessel aging the whisky. Which one do you like better and why? 4yo, 46% abv.
Little Rest Revolutionary Whisky – Battle #15: The Battle of White Plains. 15 Gallon Bourbon casks filled in 2020, these barrels are no longer purchased by Tenmile Distillery because our spirit is maturing so well in the full size barrels. A very limited commodity many of them were used to fill two large Sherry Butts to create our award-winning “Double Matured” which got a 95 and Double Gold in San Francisco. Don’t miss this whisky before it’s gone. 4yo 46% abv.
Little Rest - Flagship American Single Malt
Plus some special new unreleased expressions that will be coming this fall and have yet to even be approved by the TTB:
American Single Malt - Double Matured Rye Cask Finish, 61.5% abv
Revolutionary Whisky - Battle of Stony Point - American Single Malt, 46% abv
Revolutionary Whisky - Battle of Groton Heights - American Single Malt 46% abv
That’s at least part of the lineup for this event, and we’ll have the Master Distiller on hand Shane Fraser to tell us all about how he created and continues to shape this exciting new distillery. A big thank you to our Drammers Stamford chapter head Yoni for organizing and hosting again (address: 102 4th Street, Stamford, CT 06905). We’ll order in lighth food (likley pizza), which is included with your ticket, and as always we strongly encourage everyone that will be driving home to arrange a ride home. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
Cheers,
Charlie, Yoni and Drammers Club
