On Wednesday, October 1st starting at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern, you’re invited to join us for a special online tasting with Woodford Reserve’s Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris. To say that Mr. Morris is a legend in the bourbon industry is an understatement. In 1996, Morris helped create Woodford Reserve as a new premium bourbon and grew it into a global brand. He is also the mastermind behind many of Woodford Reserve's innovations including Double Oaked, Rye, and Master’s Collection, and he was lightyears ahead of nearly the entire US industry in making a Kentucky Malt Whiskey long before American Single Malt became a thing. He began his career in bourbon in 1976 as a trainee in Brown-Forman’s central lab. In 1997, he was an understudy to Lincoln Henderson, Woodford Reserve’s inaugural Master Distiller, whom Chris succeeded in 2003. In the years that followed, Chris was responsible for creating the world’s first bourbon finished in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Barrels. Needless to say, he is an esteemed member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, and we are thrilled to welcome him back to Drammers Club. We first welcomed Mr. Morris back in 2020, then in 2022 we welcomed Elizabeth McCall (then his Assistant Master Distiller, now the Master Distiller of Woodford), and we welcomed back Mr. Morris in April of 2023, now in his new role as Master Distiller Emeritus overseeing all distilling and whiskey creating for both Woodford Reserve and Old Forester.
This event will be focused on the Woodford Reserve side of the ledger, and we’ll be tasting his latest 2025 Master’s Collection Batch Proof release against last year’s Master’s Collection release, plus their core collection of Bourbon, Rye, Kentucky Malt Whiskey (which is different than single malt — only 53% malted barley), and their Double Oak Bourbon.
